Seya Winner CGA 5th Championship

Cambodia Golf Amateur (CGA) organized their 5th tournament of CGA Championship at Garden City Golf Club on Saturday 4th of June 2016. It is the second out of four competitions in 2016 for CGA, with the next one set to take place in September.

The event saw a turn up of around 80 players, some familiar and some new faces. With the decision of the organizing committee, players had to tee-off from the gold tees instead of the blues while players over 60 years old had to tee-off from the blue tees instead of the whites and with shotgun start began at 7:30AM, the event was finished at around 12PM noon.

Following the announcement from the 4th CGA tournament at Koh Kong back in March, which saw players who have participated in three past CGA tournaments receiving their official CGA handicap, the event was divided into two categories of players with official CGA handicap and players without.

The overall champion of the competition was none other than Seng Vanseiha with a gross score of 73. After an even par score on the front 9, in which he managed to card an eagle on hole 8 to make up for the double bogey on hole 6, the back 9 saw Seiha going on an almost perfect par before receiving a bogey on the 18th.

In the handicap category, the winner of the premier flight was one of the CGA committee members playing in the event, Thong Sokhamony, after earning a net score of 68. As for Flight A, it was Mr. Ong Duchsetha Virak who claimed the top spot with a net score of 62 where as Flight B belonged to His Excellency Meas Sophea with a net score of 66 and Flight C’s champion was His Excellency Ek Vanndy with a net score of 67.

For the non-handicap category, Oknha Som Sokrady was crowned winner of Flight A with a net score of 69. However, since he was absent during the award ceremony, the title went to Mr. Kim Byung Kyu who had the next best net score of 70. His Excellency Sao Chandara took home Flight B’s trophy with a net score of 71. The winner of Flight C with a net score of 72, His Excellency Meas Samol, was also not present when his name was called out; thus, it was His Excellency Sok Pheap who produced a net score of 75 that received the honor instead. There was also a special trophy for the lady golfer with the best gross score as well which was given Ms. Khan Vong after she managed to card a round of 85.
