To celebrate Khmer New Year, the year of the rooster, the Cambodia Golf Federation (CGF) organized the Samdech Techo Prime Minister Cup 2017 on April 12th at the grounds of Angkor Golf Resort in Siem Reap.

Arguably the biggest events of the year, high ranking government officials, ambassadors, business leaders and golfers from all regions of the Kingdom flocked in to take part in the tournament that was split into two groups. The morning group competed in team best ball format while the afternoon group and the Ladies Division that also played in the morning competed as individuals under the handicapping format of System 36.

Samdech Akeak Moha Sena Padey Techo Hun Sen planted a tree on the driving range to commemorate the occasion and gave the honor of starting off the event by teeing off the first ball after which golfers got on their buggy and drove off to their designated hole to begin the competition.

As time went on, things began to heat up, literally. To say that the weather was hot would be an understatement. Nevertheless, everyone persevered through the challenges of the course along with the scorching sun to finish their round and make the day proceed on smoothly without any major hassle.

The event culminated in the evening with dinner and award ceremony at Angkor Palace Spa & Resort. The atmosphere was lively and exciting. His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister Tea Banh, president of the CGF, opened the evening event with his remarks on the tournament and how much golf has grown in the Kingdom of Cambodia as well as thanking the sponsors and everyone for their participation in the grand event before proceeding to the award ceremony.
