To celebrate the 71st birthday of the National Police of the Royal government of Cambodia (16th May 1945 – 16th May 2016), the Samdech Krola Horm Sor Kheng Championship was organized on the 14th May 2016 at the ground of Grand Phnom Penh Golf Club with the volunteer effort of the CGA committee.
With nearly 100 players showed up to join the celebration/competition, the atmosphere was quite a lively one. Participants in the event included high ranking government officials, ambassadors and prominent business people.
The Peoria scoring system was used in the event to give lower skill players a chance as it provides a one-time handicap for all the players in this particular event and is partly based on luck. With tee-off began at 7:30AM, the competition finished at around 12PM.
Cambodian national golf team member, Peou Pichmeta, was declared champion of the event after a spectacular performance which produced a gross score of -1. In the Flight A category, it was fellow national team member, Seng Vanseiha, who took up the title with a net score of 65 where as Flight B category’s winner was Mr. Chhun Chetna with a net score of 65.2.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Samdech Krola Horm Sor Kheng, could not make it in time for the actual competition itself due to his busy schedule and urgent important matters. Nevertheless, he was able to make it in time for the award ceremony.
Samdech Krola Horm Sor Kheng congratulated all the winners on their victories and gave a speech in which he thanked all the players, sponsors and organizers for their time and effort for organizing the event to celebrate the 71st birthday of the National Police. He also talked about encouraging more people to play golf, especially youth, and hope that Cambodia will soon produce professional golfers that will be able to compete in the international stage.
